So here's the thing. I read a LOT of MDZS fic out loud to my wife. And the clueless pining is a feature of a genre. This, one day, morphed into an impromptu comedy scene between the two of us.
(Lan Zhan breaks all the extra beds in Cloud Recesses) "Oh no, there is clearly ONLY ONE BED. I have to share with Lan Zhan. Because of the inexplicable bed shortage, and NO OTHER REASON."
(Lan Zhan, sprawls naked on the single bed) "Oh, Lan Zhan must be telling me that he has no clean clothes and he needs help with the laundry!"
(Wei Ying, finding a custom-made piece of bondage gear) ".... oh no, Lan Zhan thinks I'm a HORSE!"This is the energy that is captured in these recs.

Medical professionals are going to critique the medicine, legal professionals will have thoughts on the lawyer accuracy, and I'm going to be squinting at the staffing model, wondering why the small branch library has six full-time librarians and no paraprofessionals or pages, who failed you that you are using the Dewey Decimal System for an academic library, and melting down internally over the privacy violations of sharing patron records. Summary
When the internet was dial-up and long before AO3, we were still writing stories about boys kissing. Officially vintage X-Files fanfic, on and off AO3, with a distinct and unapologetic bias for Mulder/Krycek. I have not read some of these stories in almost thirty years, although I have read others with great glee as I bookmarked them.
When most of these fic were written, we still measured fic length in text file size, not word length. Warnings weren't standardized and might have included main character death, but also slash (m/m) disclaimers ("There are two men kissing and doing a lot more than that in this story. Don't like, don't read.") and statements proclaiming that we didn't own the characters, so don't sue us. We all knew Scully smelled like vanilla, Krycek was the little black dress of fandom (suitable for any crossover situation), aliens made them do it, and the eggbeater challenge was notorious.
