    although, to be clear, you can link to your email, social media, & journals in author's notes, summaries, & your profile so that people can chat with you there, and you can also get into this kind of conversation in the comments of a legitimate work (though that conversation can be deleted by the work author with no notice for any reason, as is their right)

    I've also seen people post a two-chapter work with "requests open" thing as chapter 1 and then an actual story as chapter 2, and afaik that's fine

    1. yes. it is greatly encouraged to link outside of ao3 using author's notes and your profile, and there is no issue with making conversation in comments as that's not considered part of the work itself.

      i think the preference or more "correct" way to mention you take requests is using the author's notes. i am not entirely sure on ao3 policies around chapters themselves, but keep in mind that just because you have seen something doesn't mean it complies with tos, it just means no one has noticed it and/or it hasn't been reported to ao3.
