Comment on The Nuke in My Living Room

  1. This is so great! The "I signed you some posters" bit is hilarious, but the part that really makes me think is: I hadn't considered Etienne constantly having to talk himself out of the overconfidence he had as a younger man. But it makes total sense, and that balancing act must be so terrifying.

Also, it's so him that he'd just show up in someone's life, say alarming things, and then blur their memory of what happened. It's both outrageous, and makes perfect sense. He's always so willing to do terrible things for the greater good that of course this is exactly what he'd do to keep himself humble.

Do you remember the part (I think he was talking to Masumi) where he says that he has to keep his own mind balanced? That stuck with me, because it makes me wonder how much he's altering his own mind and personality, not just to keep the world spinning, but to keep himself going with everything that's on his shoulders.

    1. I like to think that he can't balance himself psychically, and actually has to work on it, and that's even more terrifying. Because he can fix anyone else in a second but not himself.

Etienne Lux's brain is a nightmare realm and I love it.
