Very cool that the reserve fund is able to cover the new server costs for AO3. I'd love to see information on how the reserve fund is being managed, as I consider it an important part to OTWs longevity and stability. I think I saw in a previous post/report that a financial management plan was being developed -- is that still on track to be put in place this year?
Also, it was part of the 2024 budget, but are there details around the AO3-specific legal services expenses (and how it is different from Legal Advocacy)?
I'm happy to contact the finance committee if that's more appropriate, but thought I'd ask here as I expect others might be curious too!
Thanks for reaching out! We are still working towards implementing the investment plan, which will likely happen in the first half of next year.
The Legal Committee provides two main services: it advocates on behalf of the OTW in legal issues that the organization is interested in or affected by, and also provides in-house legal counsel to OTW committees. As Legal Advocacy is a program under OTW, it is presented in its own section, while each project may incur legal expenses that are separate from Legal Advocacy work. The legal expenses incurred for AO3 were related to having a legal firm review the updated Terms of Service.
