There is no actual ageplay in this story. Castiel is mentally disabled because of severe Purgatory trauma and loss of his Grace, not roleplaying, and no one refers to Dean as Castiel's father.

Castiel was human. Again. This time though, it wasn't from a split with Heaven; his Grace was just gone. Dean and Sam were happy to provide Cas shelter within the bunker, but it quickly became apparent that they had a bigger problem than where Cas would live. Castiel had no idea of how to be a human.
"Don't look at me," Sam said when Cas came to them, asking how to use the shower. "You two have the special bond."
And with that, Dean found himself alone with a wide-eyed man who knew how to care for himself no better than a three year-old child. A man who was watching him expectantly. Wonderful.

I have trouble believing that Castiel's concept of a nurturing male figure would be a father, considering as far as we know God has never done a thing to take care of Castiel in Castiel's entire life. I think probably his mental concept of a nurturing male figure would be an older brother, since he calls the other angels his brothers and sisters and to the extent that angels receive care it is from each other. I think that an older brother would be Dean's concept of a nurturing male figure too, considering that he bases his care of Cas entirely off of his memories of how he took care of Sammy, and doesn't once base his care off of anything he remembers John doing for them. In this story, Dean also dismissively describes himself as a "cool uncle" type, rather than a father figure, even though in canon he received more nurturing care from "Uncle" Bobby than he did from his own father. In canon I think both Dean and Cas have major "Daddy issues;" their respective fathers are not viewed by them as an uncomplicated or unconditional source of male care or comfort, but more as an aloof, intimidating, all-knowing, powerful, untouchable, and somewhat threatening figure who demands unquestioning service and quite possibly considers them a disappointment. For both of them, I think the caretaking, trustworthy role is associated with an older brother, and for Dean perhaps also an uncle. So I found the "Daddy" roleplaying jarringly transparently about the readership's Daddy kink and not about the characters' actual psychology. I think more realistically in this situation Cas would view Dean as being like an older brother to him, and Dean would definitely view himself that way.
The increasingly constant references to Cas as a boy also began to wear on me, like Cas can't deserve care as his own self because he's an adult, and Dean has to pretend that Cas is someone different than he really is. I could see Dean doing that to Sammy because he remembers Sammy's babyhood and childhood, but Cas was never a child and Dean never cared for Cas as a child. There are no memories that are being hearkened back to in this relationship. While I could believe that Dean might sometimes transfer his associations with caring for a young Sam onto Cas, the almost total shift to referring to Cas as a boy and a baby instead of a man, which is literally what he is now that he's human, ended up feeling off to me. As bad as Dean is at expressing affection, I don't think he would need to resort to that sort of mental crutch in order to take care of Cas, because his "take care of Sammy" sine qua non imperative sure as hell didn't stop when Sammy became an adult. The only person I think Dean has a problem with taking care of because they're an adult is himself.
Of course, fan writers are allowed to write OOC to their hearts' content. These were just OOC aspects that were unappealing to me personally. Other than that, it's a wonderful story, and I do recommend it. Castiel is beautifully shy and obedient and longing for Dean's affection. I also enjoy that throughout the story in the background Sam is doing research to figure out how to restore Cas's Grace to him; he's putting as much time and effort into taking care of Cas as Dean is, just in a different way. I hope this story gets continued.
