Summary
The problem comes when Illya enters the bar where they know the mark frequents and spots the telltale ring that they know the mark wears on a figure he decidedly does not expect. The broad shoulders and dark, wavy hair are bad enough, but when the man turns slightly Illya’s breath catches in his throat at the sight of his chiseled jaw and the small cleft in his chin.
Briefly, he considers how amusing it might have been to watch Napoleon attempt to charm his own doppelgänger, but the thought quickly fades in the face of the reality of the situation. The reality is that now he will need to seduce someone who so resembles the man who has lodged himself so thoroughly between his ribs, and who is so completely, utterly off limits for reasons too myriad to list.
(Illya finds an unexpected way of dealing with his unfortunate attraction to his partner, never mind that it is certain to cause far more problems than it solves)

Summary
“If you had some terminal disease and you only had months to live, you wouldn’t only tell some people but hide it from me, right?” Gaby says as she leans a little closer to him.
Nope, that didn’t really help. Napoleon’s brow furrows and he tips his head at her in confusion. “…No? Is this some kind of strange philosophical game, or does this line of questioning have a point?”
“Illya’s been extra nice to you lately,” she accuses, like he has anything to do with it.
(Illya's always been a considerate partner, but when he starts doing even more nice things for Napoleon, it's a little confusing. And distressing, given how Napoleon is sure that he definitely doesn't mean it like that.)

Summary
Then there’s the apron. On one hand, it makes sense: Napoleon can be pretty precious about his clothes, so obviously he’d want to protect them. Even so, there’s something about Napoleon wearing one that makes Illya’s mind skip like a broken record. The top is too narrow on his broad chest, and the way it’s cinched in the back just emphasizes his tapered waist, like some parody of daintiness that doesn’t fit Napoleon Solo at all. And yet, somehow he looks like he belongs in it, like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
(Napoleon wears a lot of random aprons. Illya never expected to be affected by such things. Or, five times Illya sees Napoleon in an apron and has thoughts about it, and one time he acts on those thoughts.)

Summary
“You are stupid man,” Illya murmurs. His fingers tighten, digging into the soft flesh, though Napoleon can’t tell if it’s meant to be a threat or if the movement is involuntary. A conditioned response, maybe. “Not a single instinct for self-preservation.”
Napoleon swallows against the pressure on his throat and meets Illya’s gaze unwaveringly. “Not when it comes to you,” he says, his voice slightly hoarse. “Tell me you don’t want me, that you don’t want this, and I’ll walk away.”
(What really makes a person “dangerous”? Or, 4 times Illya and Napoleon were warned that the other person was dangerous, and 1 when they decided it was worth the risk.)

Summary
He should have run the other way as soon as Illya refused to answer his question of ‘why’, or at the very least put the shields up around his heart. Instead he looked deep into the icy blue eyes of a man who should be his enemy—who he’s already too far gone on—and took a leap of faith.
Napoleon Solo does not operate on faith. What the fuck is he doing?
(What they have is a mutually satisfying arrangement and nothing more, and Napoleon tells himself he's fine with that. That is, until he can't pretend that's the truth any longer.)

Summary
Solo just grabs his cup of coffee and settles back against Kuryakin’s arm again, and this time Kuryakin’s hand slides onto his shoulder. It’s not that unusual a sight, really; she’s noticed that Kuryakin is fairly handsy around him. Nothing too overt, but here and there a hand pressed to Solo’s lower back, or resting on his knee. The kind of casual affection that makes her want to warn them to be more careful, which is stupid. Obviously they know better than anyone the danger of what they have. How could they not?
(Everyone at UNCLE is used to the way that Napoleon and Illya act around each other. Their new FBI contact? Not so much.)

Summary
It’s probably-too-soft kisses stolen as they attempt to set each other to rights again, and whispered promises not to let it go so long until the next time, and knowing that they have no way to keep them. It’s a long, lingering look as Peril disappears into the crowd again, trying to commit every line of his beautiful face to memory, as if every part of him isn’t already indelibly written on Napoleon’s skin.
It’s the fact that Napoleon is hopelessly in love with him, and he doesn’t even know his name.
(Illya is the KGB's best; Napoleon, a prolific art thief—not that either of them know that about each other. The unlikely relationship they have is built on secrets, but can it survive when Napoleon gets tangled up in a KGB operation?)

Summary
Waverly smiles placidly at him. “I only ask because the invitation wasn’t entirely clear on the question of a plus one. You see, I was hoping to bring my spouse.”
At that moment, you could hear a pin drop in their office. The pen in Gaby’s hand clatters to the desk, and he’s pretty sure Illya’s mouth is hanging open, though he doesn’t turn his head to check.
(When Napoleon decides that a dinner party is the best way to inform their boss of his and Illya's new relationship, Waverly takes the opportunity to introduce the team to the husband they never knew he had.)

Summary
“It is good tradecraft. Can’t afford to have… weaknesses.” He pauses and pushes a curl back from Napoleon’s forehead, a little too tenderly, and adds quietly, “Is safer that way.”
“So what you’re telling me is the only reason we’re doing this is because you’re dying,” Napoleon says flatly. “Because it’s not dangerous if you’re dead.”
“It’s the truth,” Illya replies, though he can no longer quite meet Napoleon’s eye.
(Facing down what is almost certainly his last night alive, Illya finally admits what he's been holding back.)

Summary
“You don’t write, you don’t call,” an annoyingly familiar voice drawled from behind Illya, “and whenever we actually do meet, you try to kill me. You’ll hurt my feelings, sweetheart.”
Illya pivoted, a snarl curling at his lips. Napoleon stood close to the roof vent, in his current chosen form: a fairly tall human male, handsome and broad-shouldered, with slicked dark hair and a lazy, beckoning smile, dressed in a sharply fashionable suit tapered down at his hips, so dark that the fabric seemed to ripple against the night sky, like an angular gash in prime reality.
Napoleon sighed as Illya lunged, sidestepping at the last moment, then the air distorted as Illya snapped the haft of the spear around, catching nothing. Napoleon reappeared on the edge of the building, balancing on his heels; from his shoulders unfurled great, ink-dark wings that were as empty as his suit against the sky, neither feathers nor furled leather. His gaze lingered over Illya’s wings, a look of pure avarice.

“They are useless to their countries,” he says slowly. “Everyone knows their real names, their faces. A spy who cannot spy. Is like – like a car that cannot drive. Useless.”
“Ah,” Napoleon says quietly, as if he finally understands what Illya is so angry about. But he doesn’t, Illya thinks, he can’t know, not really, and he isn’t sure if it’s sadness or relief he feels at the thought.

Everyone looked at Uther.
Vortigern hated it. He'd hated it when they were boys, with a child's pure and unbridled resentment. And he didn't stop hating it as they grew through gangly youth—as everyone's eyes were drawn to their beloved crown prince not simply for his presence but for his height, his commanding gaze, the promise of future strength that had begun to show itself in the muscled lines of arm and shoulder.
