Shadows.
Everywhere you looked, you'd find someone stealing incessant glances at others' shadows in hopes of finding their soulmate. A feat Mingi had given up a long time ago, convinced at just twenty-four years old that he'd die old and alone, never to meet his soulmate. It should have been easy, or at least that's what society made Mingi believe, because his shadow looked nearly identical to himself, making it impossible to tell who its rightful owner was. Lucky him, he just so happens to smash the nose of Aurora University's star batter, Jeong Yunho, who seems to be struggling with the same issue.

“We know you’re a beta, Mingi,” he admitted finally. “But sometimes you smell like…” He trailed off, glancing at Seonghwa again as if asking for permission to continue.
“Like what?” Mingi pressed, his patience wearing thin.
Seonghwa hesitated for a moment, choosing his words carefully before meeting Mingi’s eyes.
“Like an alpha,” he said quietly.
Mingi stared at him for a second before letting out a disbelieving laugh, shaking his head.
“That doesn’t even make sense.”

Hongjoong had expected a rejection. He knew Seonghwa didn't see him that way. That doesn't mean it doesn't hurt though.
Hongjoong is also notoriously bad at getting over someone. And he finds himself hoping that Seonghwa might change his mind.

When Hongjoong had clocked into his office job at 9:01 am after dropping off his daughter at primary school, he’d expected anything but seeing his favourite idol talking to one of his coworkers at the empty desk next to his.
