Max turns at the sound of delighted laughter behind him; Grace is chasing Eve who has her hair done up in cute pigtails, ringlets bouncing as she runs as fast as her little legs will carry her. Jonah follows behind them, in his short pants and knee socks that stop just below his knobby scraped-up knees.
Weren’t the other three children just that small, too? How is it possible they’ve all grown up in the blink of an eye? And the twins soon will, too.

Based on the events of Ep 5x13 Call me Fran-
After being strung along for half of season 5, Maxwell finally does something seemingly real when he calls her Fran. But what happens when Fran realises that it's not enough for Maxwell to just say her name?
Set from Maxwell’s POV, this story is a look inside a lot of the heavy topics which the show (obviously) glossed over: Processing grief, letting go and accepting new beginnings.

Follows s3e25 "Green Card". The kiss at the end of this episode is one of my absolutely favorites! That's what inspired this fanfic.
Maxwell takes Fran out for a nice supper (and more) following her latest failed engagement.
I was trying for canon compliance, but the characters wouldn't cooperate. It stays more or less canon compliant through the first 2 chapters, but definitely canon divergence starting with chapter 3.
Author's Note: The first couple of lines were pulled directly from the episode, but after that, the italicized thoughts are always Maxwell's.
