“Yeah,” Eddie says, and it comes out more tired than he means it to. “The couch is a goner.”
“No,” Buck says, dramatically offended. “I love your couch.”
Eddie snorts, closing the fridge door with a soft click. “Let’s see what happens before we plan the funeral.”
They’re standing in Buck’s kitchen now. Buck leans against the counter, arms crossed, and Eddie props himself against the fridge. There’s maybe two feet between them, less, if either of them breathes too deep. The silence is comfortable, weighted but not heavy.
“You know,” Eddie says after a beat, “I’ve slept under worse conditions in the army.”
“Yes, Eddie,” Buck nods, rolling his eyes. “I know my apartment is better than a warzone.” He says it dryly, but there’s fondness behind it. “But we’re not in a warzone,” he adds. “And we’re not kids. So let’s act like the adults we are and go to sleep.”

“You’re staring,” Buck mutters, not bothering to look up.

“You’re pretty,” Eddie replies without missing a beat, standing to take his place beside Buck on the bed.

Buck’s head snaps up, his eyes meeting Eddie’s. The blush that spreads across his cheeks is subtle, but Eddie notices it immediately. He files ‘ petnames’ away in his mental Buck Folder, labeled with a giant Important.

You ’re trouble,” Buck says, though there’s no real heat in his voice.

“And you only know the half of it,”

Ravi’s voice drops to a near-whisper, thick with incredulous realization. “Wow. Okay. I’ve heard older gays could be kind of… selectively dense about this stuff, but wow. This is next-level.”
Eddie’s head snaps up, eyebrows shooting toward his hairline. “Did you just call me old?” There’s a flicker of that protective, slightly dangerous edge Ravi now instinctively associates with the Diaz Death Glare™.
“I’ll have you know I’m bi,” Buck adds helpfully, completely missing the point as usual, his face lit with earnestness.
Ravi just stares at them, the sheer, magnificent absurdity of it all finally clicking into place. “So… you both agree on the dumb part, then?”

or: Ravi knows they are together, he just doesn't understand why everybody is lying to him.

"I can cover the cost of your blood. Now, later, whenever. And you–"
"You want me to give you my blood," Buck finishes, his voice airy, his smile too calm. "So you’re always big and strong for your next brawl."
Eddie smiles wider, lips cracking open again as blood beads on his mouth. "It’s a win-win situation." He leans closer, their breath mingling. "What do you say?"
Buck is staring at his lips now. Watching the drip trail down Eddie’s chin.
Eddie lifts a finger to his chin, collects the slow-running blood, and brings it up to Buck’s lips.
Buck’s eyes dilate. His breath catches. "Bad idea," Buck murmurs, but his voice is ragged, trembling with restraint.
"Good idea," Eddie counters, pressing the blood to Buck’s mouth like war paint. "How does turning someone work? Can you feed from me without turning me? We’d save a lot of money that way."

or: Eddie is fighting to feel in control and nothing makes him feel more in control than taking care or Buck.
