Their daughters had been friends. Close friends since birth, with father many had thought to be almost as close despite their origins as business partners.
But Elizabeth was the one to see it happen. To come out from her hiding spot when she saw her father kill Charlie. To see him run to not get caught. To see the soul of her friend rise and, as many kids do, not want to lose what she had.

Bruce - because there’s no way she’s calling him Batman in her head while on her deathbed - puts his gloved hand just over the tips of her fingers, and Steph can’t help but wonder who of the two of them he’s trying to comfort. It’s a mean thought, but she is having trouble remembering to keep it optimistic. Must be a side effect of dying.
