With the confirmation that Mr. Hollander is attending, Ilya absolutely will follow. Even if only for a few hours, they’ll occupy the same space, the same room, maybe even talk together, laugh at jokes. Of course Ilya will attend the gala, but he can’t be too excited, lest Mr. Hollander smells his callowness through the phone, so he settles for a meek: “Maybe.”
Galas generally disinterest Ilya. Every rule, however, has its exception; after all, how could he turn down an invitation to an event he knows Mr. Hollander will be at?

Summary
The airport looks like it always does. A sea of people oblivious to anything going on around them. Ilya is about to put his headphones over his ears when he sees something so familiar his brain almost doesn't register it. That is until he realizes that he's in fucking Moscow so this doesn't make any sense.
Because right there at the gate, spread out over several chairs, his duffle bag as a pillow, is the figure of Shane Hollander sleeping. The hood of his sweatshirt is up and he's wearing sunglasses, but Ilya would recognize the shape of Shane Hollander anywhere.
“Hollander?” he asks in shock, stepping closer.
Or, Shane shows up in Russia after learning Ilya's father died. Ilya did not ask him to do this. He just showed up. And now Ilya doesn't know what to do with himself. He proceeds to just go with it, and maybe listen to Shane for once.
Another song inspired fic, this time Ever the Same by Rob Thomas which I argue is underrated.

Something he’d been thinking about for a while, something he’d brought up to Shane a few times, trying to joke about it to gauge how Shane would react. And Shane had never given him a hard no, when he mentioned it. His cheeks flushed pink all the way to the tips of his ears, but he didn’t say no.
“Let’s record a sex tape,” Ilya used his thumb to spread his precum all over his tip, pleasure shooting through him ever so slightly like little shocks of lightning.
Shane’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets, “what?”
