Shane groans. “Stop, stop.” Ilya takes his hands off Shane, but Shane shakes his head. “No, no, stop worrying. Your pulse -” He swallows hard.
“Okay,” Ilya says, trying to draw steadying breaths. “Why are you hungry? You did not eat? Drink, I mean?”
Shane continues to shake his head.
“Oh, Shane,” Ilya says, pulling him into his arms. “You have to have blood, no?”
“It kills people. Don’t you care?”
“No,” Ilya says, surprised that it’s not a lie.

“Nah, man, she’d kill you,” J. J. says, which is probably true.
Shane shrugs. “That sounds like a straight people problem.”
Hayden is truly glad that the times of Shane torturing himself by being in the closet are over. But. Well. This conversation is kind of making him miss those days.

Finally, after everything, Shane is a happily married man. Incredibly happily married. It only becomes a problem once he thinks it qualifies him to dispense relationship advice.
Or, five times Shane gives relationship advice his friends disagree with, and one time he doesn’t.

Ilya is relieved when Shane seems to rally at least somewhat towards the end of morning skate, chasing after Ilya for the puck. Ilya gets it past Hayes, whoops, whirls around and sees Shane fall.
For a moment, Ilya can’t move, and then he skates faster than he ever has in his life.
He skids to a halt next to where Shane is slumped over on the ice and topples forward onto his knees.

Jaw Man flicked his middle finger up at Ilya, who didn’t seem to mind, and gestured towards Shane and Hayden with raised eyebrows. “The f*** are you even doing right now, man.”
Ilya said briefly, “Orgy.”
“Uh,” said Shane, “no, that’s not—”
Ilya grinned at him. It was a mean-edged grin but something about it seemed to suggest that he was joking with Shane, rather than about him. “Oh, he speaks.”
“We’re not here for an orgy,” Shane said to Jaw Man. “We’re missionaries with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

“Aren't you gonna- you don't have questions? You're just…” Shane trails off when Ilya kisses the inside of his knee. “...fine with it?”
“I have many questions,” Ilya drawls, cheek still pressed into Shane's leg. “I am fine? Mm, probably.” He quirks his lips in a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. “I will know for sure after we talk.”
When Shane starts to sit up, Ilya lowers his legs onto the mattress and slinks up beside him. He hasn't taken off his sneakers yet. “I'm not gonna kill you, or anything, if you're worried.”
“Comforting,” Ilya rumbles.

They're lying in bed, legs intertwined and bodies tangled together under the sheets, still naked from the night before. It's a quiet Sunday morning, sun peeking through the curtains and warming Shane's half of the bed. Ilya's hand curls at the nape of his neck, fingers working through the knots in Shane’s hair.
Ilya hums before, "You think you are not sweet?"
or, shane worries he's not enough of an omega and ilya helps remind him that he is.

Ilya had told Shane to leave because they needed space - they needed some room to catch their breath so they could talk about things properly. So they could say sorry and fix the mess they had made. But one day apart stretched into two, into three, into a week, and suddenly Shane was on the other end of the phone, saying, ”Maybe this isn’t going to work, Ilya.”
At least Ilya is good at that part; he’s an expert in being left behind.
(Or, Ilya and Shane breakup. Then the Centaurs’ plane almost crashes.)
