David leans in closer, and Michael still smells like the beach. “Michael Emerson, have you been thinking about me?”
Michael glares at him, and David takes note of the fact that he hasn’t said no.
“Well, I’ve been thinking about you,” David tells him, voice low, letting his hand slide across Michael’s bare chest, feeling it under his palm when Michael’s breath hitches.
“Really?” Michael whispers, like he can’t believe it.

"M'fine," he forces out, "David--"
The water hits him in the face as he's shoved away and Michael manages to shove himself to his knees before the next wave comes. Not that it really matters at this point. It's too early for him to be affected by water but David's blood is in his veins and he's not sure he could drown if he tried. He half expects David to be gone. The other half of him expects David to be laughing.
He's not expecting the fear.
Michael's borrowed time runs out. David is there.
