Summary
But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,
What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?The Lord of the Rings, Galadriel’s Song
It happened so fast.
After Alqualondë, Artanis looks only onward. There can be no return, not after what they’ve done. And what would await them? Only darkness, only sorrow.
Not even the curse and prophecy spoken by the dark figure standing high upon a rock could compel her to reverse course. Nor the abandonment by the faithless Fëanáro and his sons, the stolen ships that vanished into the unmeasured night.
She will not turn back, defeated, begging at the feet of the Valar for pardon.

Summary
My child has lived too long in peace.
“There are worse things than water-spirits. Real dangers. Evil, rotting things that stink and go cloaked in shadow. You must not go so far. If you see the skeletons of the swan-ships that burned, you must turn back.”
I have never seen a foam-fay. I have never known anyone taken by a spirit of the sea. But the Sea itself is perilous. And the monsters walk abroad in the empty places of the enemy North.
To say nothing of the monsters that might dwell in one’s home. There is a man walking all alone along the shores of Losgar.

Summary
Isil was first wrought and made ready, and first rose into the realm of the stars, and was the elder of the new lights, as was Telperion of the Trees. Then for a while the world had moonlight, and many things stirred and woke that had waited long in the sleep of Yavanna.

“You’re sleepy,” said the beach-Maia, after a time. I nodded. Again she knew my heart. I was so, so sleepy—when had I last slept a full night?

Summary
So what then is there to decide? Are they not wedded to the same doom, and thus, to one another? This choice they made long ago.
“Hithlum shall join forces with Himring,” Fingon proclaims, strangled. "I will go to battle with you, my friend."

Summary
Finally, Nolofinwë drew back, though he kept his hands on Maitimo’s shoulders. Maitimo tried to speak again, to ask him what was going on, what Nolofinwë was doing here, and where here was. But words were still stuck in his throat and refused to move.
Nolofinwë smiled at him through tears.
“Son,” he said, “I feared I had lost you.”
Maitimo opens his eyes and finds out he is no longer a captive.

Summary
"You should have killed me then," Maedhros shattered the silence, and the fragments drew blood as they tore into the younger one’s lungs. "You should have cut my throat, not my wrist."
His tone was tired but set, bearing down on the shards in Fingon’s chest. The dark-haired Elf brought his hand up to Maedhros’ shoulder, holding on as his breathing caught in his throat.
He shook his head.
"I couldn’t," he whispered. "My heart would have died alongside yours."
After his rescue from Thangorodrim, Maedhros is struggling to cope with the memories and with feelings of regret and self-doubt. Fingon, meanwhile, is doing what he can to help and reassure.
