You sort of hoped this was some form of trained animal - an organic hull robot of sorts, because surely a person wouldn't risk clambering around in the unknowable, soundless void of space, at times floating with nothing but a skinny tether to connect it to anything that would carry vibrations. That would be completely insane. Nothing smart enough to figure out astrophage and build an interstellar ship to try and solve it would be stupid enough to go outside of that ship. The whole thing had been extremely confusing.

He had made sure that anyone who approached left as quickly as they came. Anyone other than Curvo. Now, Curvo was practically settled as Lord of his men again, and Celegorm still snapped at them for speaking to him as often as he spoke back.
He got a sense, suddenly, looking down at Curvo’s elven eyes, his delicately curled wrist, holding slight, soft tension in flexed fingers, that he was really trying to be an elf again, and that he might really want that, that it was not just another lie.
